Small Business Spotlight: Dixon Pest Solutions

Pest

In SC, we have a lot of pest problems. Ants. Termites. Cockroaches (HUGE ones). Mosquitos. Bed bugs. Rodents. And those are just a small handful of the disgusting pest possibilities. So having a good, reliable pest control expert is one of the most valuable things you can find.

It seems like most people like to call the Orkins and Terminixes of the world, but in my experience, the big companies come with even bigger bills and below-average customer service. With pest control, as with many things, it’s better to work with a mom-and-pop type of operation than with a mega corporation. The tricky part is that many mom-and-pops are “rinky-dink” – not answering phones, not providing timely invoices and receipts, not accepting normal payment methods, not truly guaranteeing and standing by their work, etc.

However, I can recommend a local, small business pest control company that delivers great service at a great price. Dixon Pest Solutions is a company that I’ve worked with for many years and have always walked away satisfied. Whenever I call Dixon Pest, I know I’m going to get the owner, Andrew, on the phone, and that personal touch goes a long way. Andrew has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions, working on Sundays to knock out a difficult project, showing up same-day to take care of a pest problem I was having, and even meeting me near my office on an hour’s notice to get me a Wood Infestation Report that I needed for a closing (#realtorproblems).

I’ve used Dixon Pest for a variety of issues. At my house, the main bug problem we run into every year is ants. In the past I’ve attempted to attack the ants myself, but I drew the line last year when, as I sat on my couch, I suddenly felt ants crawling on me. The couch is black, so it was literally impossible to find the ants and kill them, since they were perfectly camouflaged. That experience was just a little too much for me.

So I called Dixon Pest, and soon enough, Andrew was at my doorstep, ready to do war with the ants. There were so many ants that they actually ate all the poison that Andrew set for them (poor guys), so he returned and added more without any additional charge.

This year I went ahead and let Dixon Pest prep my home so that the ants wouldn’t even get in in the first place. Like magic, we have had no ants this spring, and as a bonus, the ant treatment doubles as a cockroach deterrent. No more creepy crawlies on the black couch.

I could tell plenty of other stories, like the home where termites had eaten basically every piece of wood in the house and Andrew was able to eliminate them, or the time Andrew had to catch 13 mice that were hiding everywhere in a small house. I could go on-and-on, but the bottom line is, if you have pest problems, give Andrew with Dixon Pest Solutions a call, and I’m confident you won’t be disappointed.

As a general rule-of-thumb, Dixon Pest charges $75 for pretty much any type of bug treatment (such as ants, spiders, wasps, carpenter bees, cockroaches, earwigs, etc.) in a home under 3,500 square feet, if you get quarterly treatments. Mosquito treatment is even cheaper – quarterly treatments are $55 each. And if you have issues with rodents or squirrels, Andrew can give you a quote on what that would cost.
